What is Neocartman?
Neocartman is a project that was initially envisioned by Xian Xi of Jamma-Nation-X to be
able to see the legacy of Neo Geo (MVS and Hyper) cart ownership by serial number. The actual product, the site you are currently visiting, is a collaboration
between Xian Xi and xiao_haozi of Mutaku. Xian Xi handles all the data collection and xiao_haozi designed and maintains the
code and site.
Collecting the Data?
The initial data was collected by Xian Xi by various scraping methods. Currently, data is mainly generated through user submissions
which can be done through the submission form through the main toolbar.
But What Data is Collected?
What you see is what you get. The database contains serial, location, and date data. We don't keep anything personally identifying. The
main objective here is to be able to find your cart and see where it's been in the world.
What about the Code
Neocartman is generated using a few tools. The initial data collection and list are done using Google Documents. This online database,
so to speak, is then fed into the main handler written in Python. The Python handler updates our MySQL database with any new or updated entries, and then generates static html files
that are displayed here. The HTML front-end is simply jQuery(javascript)+CSS+AJAX to handle the various views and search methods.
All code, layout, and design was done by xiao_haozi. For more information on the code or design of the back-end or front-end, head
over to Mutaku and check out the projects section.
Things are Jacked in my Browser.
Using IE? Well step into the 21st century and get a real browser (see). Neocartman should work just fine on all standards compliant browsers
such as those using moz, webkit, or CSS3 in general. Since this isn't our real job, we care not to take the time to hack up code just to support a browser
that's stuck in the past (- cordially, xiao_haozi). If you have a real browser and have an issue, please contact us
through the form via the toolbar and we will try to jump on it as soon as we can.
Neocartman should work just fine on mobile browsers (tested on iPhone/iPad and Android-based devices). There are a few simple
layout glitches that are currently being tended to, however, these should not affect usage.
I Don't Like X. You Should Change Y.
While we welcome constructive input or ideas on new features, we do this out of love for the Neo and simply because it's fun. So comments
trolling the setup, or not liking how we designed things, or complaints about why you are sad with life, these will mostly be ignored.
Cheer up and have some fun. We aren't professional web dudes. We are two guys who have jobs totally unrelated to the interwebs or
the computing thingies and merely run Neocartman for fun. You should have some too!
But I Still Don't Understand Something.
This is normal in life and tends to keep things alive and interesting. If you have any further questions about Neocartman, Neo Geo,
coding and how things are run here, or really any other questions about life and living it, feel free to contact us through the toolbar above and we will
answer as best we can and be sure to confuse you further. Unless your question is 'How can I be more of a nerd?' we usually can't help you much.
Note: all Neo and Neo game images including cart labels are copyright and trademark their respective owners which is
mostly SNK.
